New Time Shuffle
As part of a multicultural training program, with a focus on social justice, Anna Halprin developed four performance pieces which included the New Time Shuffle (1970). Inspired by the segregation and hostility during her visit to the Soledad Prison, the piece mirrored the divisions, and amplified the distinctive racial identities through improvised songs, rhythms and movements. New Time Shuffle (1970) premiered on December 4th 1970 and was performed at Soledad Prison in Soledad, California. The performance was choreographed and performed by Anna Halprin and the SFDW, with music by Bo Conley and Richard Friedman.
